Dear Members, Friends and Supporters of the St. Charles County Historical Society:
I hope that your life is getting back to some normalcy. The mask requirement at the society has been loosened as it has at many places.
In past messages to you, I wrote about how the Map Room was coming along. I am happy to report that it is finished and the cleaning up on the lower level is continuing. I also wrote about all the tapes of various sizes that were housed in the lower level. Many of the tapes have been reviewed. Some have been turned into an electronic format and are on our website on our YouTube channel. For example, if you attended St. Charles High School, you might be interested in the images about the fire in 1995. Please check out these YouTube snippets of history. More will be posted in the future.
As usual, a lot is going on at the archives. A comprehensive inventory of all items in the building has begun. One of our volunteers is compiling Baue indices into one document while others are creating a new system for business files and a continuation of work on probate files. In working on compiling a comprehensive list of our holdings, this is a good opportunity to eliminate duplicate information such as obituaries. If you find that you have some free time and love history, volunteering at the Archives might be for you!!!
Our first Volunteer Coordinator and Tech employee, Chrissy Bellizzi left us as her husband’s job necessitated a move to the State of IL. We were very lucky that we found Adam Presswood, who began his employ with us on April 26. He is very knowledgeable about many subjects, including technology, and has a lot of energy. Please visit the Archives and meet Adam. He has been a great addition to our SCCHS family.
As things stand as I type, we will be holding our first Quarterly Luncheon in over fifteen months on July 24, 2021. Dr. Mary Case, our county Medical Examiner, was going to be our Speaker in April 2020 and has graciously agreed to give it another try. She will talk about the Medical Examiner system and some of the cases she worked on that you might have heard about.
